c.1950 Gunthermann, No.846 Clockwork Reversing Trolley Bus in Original Box

Superb early post-war, tin litho "Self Reversing Clockwork Trolley Bus" manufactured by Gunthermann, West Germany. It comes complete with its original box and separate nickel plated key. Best of all it works great!

The toy is a very accurate rendition of the electric trolley bus used in West Germany following WWII (see last photo). It's all embossed tin litho with 26 die cut windows. The body was colored pale yellow with orange striping. The roof is gray and has twin black overhead conductors. The underside is all black and it has one reversing bumper one either end.

The trolley sides are marked with Gunthermann's SG trademark, its 846 catalog number, station number, and the West Germany National Coat of Arms.

It has an nickel plated bell inside the car which rings continuously while its moving. When it strikes an immovable object one of the two end bumpers retracts which automatically reverses its direction. It has a stop/start switch protruding from underneath the chassis in the center. It rolls on four solid black rubber tires.

The scarce box shows a perspective view of the trolley which is nearly identical to the toy. Simple schematic directions in German and English were printed on the left end. Trademark, catalog number and country of origin are located on the right end.
